One Halloween I took my kids to a local cemetery. We walked around and looked at headstones, noting the names and dates and the ages people died, and tried to imagine what they died of. We brought paper and unwrapped color crayons and made headstone rubbings.
Another thing you can do is go and help clean up a cemetery and clean the headstones (google how to do it, there is a right way and a wrong way, you don't want to cause any damage).
Leave flowers, rosemary, pennies and/or shells in remembrance.
